The Veteran Cadres Movement (VCM) a pressure group and its allies have expressed satisfaction about Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings’s statement that she did not want to see the National Democratic Congress (NDC) go back into opposition and that her defeat in the Sunyani Congress would not make her to break away from the party.
“The open and bold statement by the former first lady should now clear the way for President John Atta Mills, to utilize the opportunity created for settlement of all issues by taking appropriate
steps to bring all warring factions within the NDC together to enable him bring about unity and understanding within the party”.
This was contained in a statement issued in Koforidua on Thursdayand signed by Nana Addo-Aikins, Convenor of the VCM and Allies, and copied to the GNA.
The statement stated that with unity, peace and understanding within the NDC what now needed to be done was the mounting of a joint political strategy for unification and re-organization of cadres and
political activities on the ground, who by reason of hitherto factionalism within the party had become divided, apathetic and frustrated. “The VCM and its Allies which are historically conditioned to have a stake in the continued existence of the NDC as a ruling party are ready and willing to put their dedicated and experienced professional grassroots mobilization talents at the disposal of the political establishment (after having long recoiled into their shells for good reasons)”.
“This will be possible if and when any such drive for unification and consolidation of cadres and political activities within the leadership and the ranks begins,” the statement stated.
It appealed to all warring factions within the NDC to hang up their gloves and avoid a disjointed organization strategy that would undermine good organization as it appeared to be happening within the party presently.
It noted that any other approach would be counter- productive, while any person who broke away or stood elections in 2012 as an Independent Presidential Candidate would be committing political
It called upon its Allies, especially the Eagle Party and the June Four Movement, to wake up from slumber and rise up to the occasion and work for a new beginning in the politics of the nation.
