The Nhyiaeso Constituency in Kumasi came alive last Sunday when the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Dr. Richard Anane commenced a house-to-house tour.
Residents of the area were excited to hear that the hard working MP grabbed a pestle and pounded an old lady’s ‘fufu’ for her at South Suntreso last Sunday.
Immediately Dr. Anane and his entourage entered the lady’s house, the MP realized that the woman was looking for someone to pound the ‘fufu’ for her so he quickly got hold of the pestle.
All attempts by the lady and the people around to stop the MP from pounding the ‘fufu’ proved futile as he continued to pound the ‘fufu’ until the cassava and plantain got finished.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP told Daily Guide on Monday that the purpose of the tour is to give him the opportunity to meet the electorate in a face-to-face situation. He noted that this would also enable him to know their problems and concerns so that he could formulate the right policies and programmes to address them amicably.
The meticulous legislator said he would use the tour to communicate the policies and programs of the NPP to the electorate. Dr. Anane noted that the listening tour would help him to retain the seat by securing many votes which would eventually help the NPP to unseat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2012 polls.
The NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo is currently on a similar listening tour of the country aimed at helping him understand better the problems of the electorate so that he could address them.
The MP’s version of the ‘listening tour’ started on Sunday with Dr. Anane and his aides including NPP executives in the constituency moving from one house to the other..
Dr. Anane, who interacted with whoever crossed his path, promised to start the tour whenever Parliament was on recess till the Election Day.
Explaining further, the MP said the constituents complained of lack of money in their pockets, jobs and extreme hardship since the NDC took over power in 2009. Dr. Anane said now that Ghanaians have tested both the NPP and NDC, they would be in the better position to elect the suitable candidate, Nana Akufo Addo as president come 2012.
The MP prayed for peace among his party people members of the NPP should unite as one people with a single destiny to confront the NDC.
He also urged Ghanaians to unite and work to make Ghana a better place, stressing that without peace there would never be development.
