A Deputy Ministers for Water Resources Works and Housing, Dr. Hannah Bissiw, has called the bluff of the pressure group ‘Forum for Public Accountability’ who are calling for her head.
Dr. Bissiw who has been dragged to the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for alleged corruption said she is willing to face the commission anytime she is invited.
The group Forum for Public Accountability has called on President Mills to immediately dismiss Dr. Hannah Bissiw, claiming that it has evidence to show that the outspoken Deputy Minister fraudulently acquired a number of properties through outright abuse of her office.
The group told journalist in Accra that the Cuban trained veterinary doctor has lost the legitimacy to continue serving in the Mills administration.
The press conference, held on Wednesday September 7, came just a day after the same group filed a petition at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) asking the anti-corruption watchdog to probe the Deputy Minister.
According to the Convener of the Forum for Public Accountability DM Ofori Atta, “Dr. Hannah Bissiw has publicly admitted that she has lobbied corporate institutions and friends to donate the over 250,000 Ghana cedis she used for massive infrastructural charities in her hometown and constituency.
“We wish to state that these massive infrastructural projects are far above any reasonable expectation of her legitimate financial capacity. There is absolutely no record with any of the state tax agencies that suggest any such income.
“To provide a clearer picture of the character of Dr. Bissiw, it would be necessary to bring to the fore a chocking revelation that the Deputy Minister receives a per-diem of 800 Ghana cedis per week instead of the rightful amount of 200 Ghana cedis per week which in fact means that she receives an impress exceeding her monthly income.
“It is sad to say tht in the face of all these, Dr. Bissiw continues to hold public office and perpetuate fraud on the people of Ghana. And why not, when she has been emboldened by a President who sees and hears no evil when it comes to issues concerning his appointees.
“We are confident that during the course of the proceedings at CHRAJ, the flood gates would be opened for far more scandalous revelations”.
