The Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe has vehemently denied sending out ‘macho men’ to scuttle the planned address by former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to her supporters in Cape Coast.
According to Hon. Benyiwa Doe, she has no reason to prevent Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings from addressing her supporters in the region adding that it is unfortunate for her to be fingered in the confrontation that happened in Cape Coast.
On Saturday September 17, a group of ‘macho men’ alleged to be bodyguards of Ama Benyiwa Doe, forcibly locked up the Cape Coast Town Hall, where a scheduled meeting between members of FONKAR and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who was on a “Thank You” tour and also to interact with her supporters, was supposed to be held.
Reports say the FONKAR members scattered for fear of their lives and the Cape Coast Police had to call for reinforcement from the near-by districts to complement their efforts in preventing a fight that could easily have turned bloody.
However, speaking on Citi FM’s Breakfast Show on Monday September 19, the Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe said she was saddened by reports that her body guards were involved in the scuffle that happened at the Town Hall premises.
She explained that supporters of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings led by aide to ex-President Rawlings, Kofi Adams, were prevented by party executives of the region from using the premises because they had not acquired the permit.
She added that the constituency and regional executives of the NDC also stated that they were unaware that Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings was visiting the region on a Thank you tour.
“There were no macho men there, if macho men were there, they would have been beaten. They were purely party executives who went to confront Kofi Adams. They said that they would not allow the NDC in Cape Coast name to be muddied up”.
