A heated verbal spat occurred on the airwaves of AsempaFM on Thursday between two gentlemen; one a senior journalist and the other a National Executive Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The bone of contention had to do with the absence of former President Rawlings at Wednesdays Founders Day Celebration which took place at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.
The fiery barney ensued between the Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature and Deputy General Secretary of the NDC who also doubles as spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams when the host of the Accra-based radio stations Ekosei sen mid-afternoon political talkshow, Bobie Ansah, tried to find out why Mr. Rawlings failed to attend the Founder's Day Celebration.
The Founders Day, instituted two years ago, is marked on 21st September to commemorate the birthday of Ghanas first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
President John Evans Atta Mills endorsed 21st September of every year to be celebrated in memory of the first President of Ghana. This is in recognition of his foresight and fortitude which led to Ghana's attainment of independence from British colonial rule in 1957.
Expatiating on the matter, Kofi Adams first denied ever saying that the Kufuor administration frustrated Mr. Rawlings in his bid to set up a foundation.
However, Mr. Bature, who was reacting to this piece of information, maintained that Kofi Adams did say in an interview with Citi Fm that the Kufuor administration sabotaged the Ex-President in his plans to set up a foundation.
Though Kofi Adams denied the statement attributed to him, Mr. Bature still insisted adding that; This is totally false and I dont expect Kofi Adams to be embarrassing the former President with this kind of statements. There is no evidence to support that.
Not enthused by Alhaji Batures assertions, Kofi Adams quickly interjected by stating that he has always come to know that he (Bature), does listen to social issues with jaundiced ears.
But the Al-Hajj newspaper Editor stood by his comments and rather asked Kofi Adams to cross-check information before coming out to berate him.
More drama was to follow when Kofi Adams tried to offer an explanation on why former president Rawlings was absent at the celebration of Dr Kwame Nkrumahs 102nd birthday (Founders Day).
According to him, though he (Kofi Adams) was given an invite to attend the function in his capacity as the partys Deputy General Secretary, his checks at the former Presidents office indicated no official invitation was sent to his boss, hence his visible absence at the event.
But the former host of Radio Golds Alhaji and Alhaji programme felt Kofi Adams was being economical with the truth and openly called him a liar since he (Bature) was aware an invitation was extended to the former president but that he (Rawlings) deliberately chose not to attend the occasion.
Clearly riled at being tagged a liar, Kofi Adams, who asked to be called back (on phone), described the newspaper editor as a sycophant with no credibility doing a hatchet job for his pay masters.
Tempers went an octave higher as the altercation degenerated into scathing verbal attacks and exchange of vituperative with Alhaji Bature clearly heard screaming you are an idiot he is an idiotyou are an idiot Kofi.
Having made his point, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC kept a calm deportment as the Alhaji Bature raged on air and insisted that he had never been a card-bearing member of the NDC AND had never taken monies from any NDC member to speak on their behalf.
