Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has asserted that ruling party has become weaker with Major (Rtd) Boakye Gyans candidature, stressing that the NDC will in no way benefit from his being a candidate because he could split the partys votes countrywide.
The spokesperson of the defunct Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) and a former close ally of former President Rawlings, last Saturday polled 81% of delegates votes to win the partys primaries in Jaman South constituency, despite the vociferous voices that objected to his bid.
Boakye Gyan says he harbours an intense aspiration to see a cordial relationship between his former close pal and President Mills.
But speaking as a panelist on Peace FMs Kokrokoo Morning Show, Kofi Adams said: "NDC today has become weaker with Boakye Gyan as its candidate than without Boakye Gyan or with Boakye Gyan as a member and not a candidate.,I'm telling youby allowing him to go through the process (primaries), he has made the NDC weakerI am highly highly disappointedwe should have investigated his membership.
Kofi Adams says he finds it difficult to accept the genuineness in the ex-military officers intention of joining the NDC, a party built on the ideals and principles of ex-President Rawlings but whom Boakye Gyan continues to chastise. Whiles pooh-poohing his desire to improve relations between Mr Rawlings and President Mills, Kofi Adams said he still has his doubts that Boakye Gyan qualifies to be an NDC member.
If you listen to him, and some of the comments he has made concerning the NDC; NDC is an illegality because it came out of an illegitimate establishment I have come to the conclusion that he waited for things to get better in the NDC before joininghe is not part of the founding membersHe carries himself so high as if he is the one who is coming to unite President Mills and former President Rawlings. Who told him that we need a mediator for former President Rawlings and President Mills? he asked rather sarcastically.
Kofi Adams, who is also the mouthpiece for the Rawlingses, also spoke against the tendency by his party to constantly accuse the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of perpetuating one evil deed or the other to sabotage the ruling party.
On Monday, Comfort Adubea Adjei, wife of the National Chairman of the NDC, Dr Kwabena Adjei, reportedly said she will not campaign for the newly elected parliamentary candidate, Margaret Ansah, because the latter is not a true member of the party, but will campaign for President John Evans Atta Mills in 2012.
Mrs. Adjei, who was beaten by Margaret Ansah at the NDC parliamentary primaries held over the weekend, said the winner was sponsored by the incumbent NPP MP for the area, W. O. Boafo with a whopping amount to campaign against her.
However, Kofi Adams, opines that the party needs to create room for dissent warning against the penchant of pointing accusing fingers at the NPP, a practice, he said if not checked, makes things difficult for the leadership of the party.
There are certain things going on in our party and if we dont take care, it will make things difficult for us. One of them is running away from things which need to be settled immediately. Instead of finding out the truth, we blame it on the NPP. If we continue like that as a ruling party; you dont create the platform to be able to deal with dissentwe work with humans and definitely there will be differencesIts up to all of us to confront that issue to know what we have control over, so that the ones we dont have control over, we then leave it for those who have. he added.
