The lawyers of a former Upper East regional minister under ex-President J. A Kufuor, Boniface Gambila, who has been detained at the offices of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in Accra since Thursday morning, have now been allowed to meet their client.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News a while ago, Karim Haruna, who accompanied the former minister to the national undercover outfit, confirmed the arrival of the lawyers who had earlier been denied access to their client.
Gambila, who was a former director of the National Service Scheme, is being held at the 37 branch of the national security outfit.
Citi News understands the former minister was invited to the BNI headquarters in Accra on Monday through a letter. Gambila went there voluntarily, however, it is not clear why he has been detained. Family members have described the arrest as political vindictiveness.
