Some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), family members, friends, and sympathisers of former Upper East regional minister, Boniface Gambila, have stormed the offices of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), to demand his immediate release.
Mr. Gambila was held on Thursday morning and spent the night at the offices of the nation’s investigative fortress. It is still not clear why Mr. Gambila, who was a former director of the National Service Scheme, is being held at the 37 branch of the national security outfit.
According to Citi News’ Umaru Sanda, the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, the National Youth Organiser, Anthony Karbo and a host of party faithfuls have all besieged the BNI offices demanding the release of the former minister under ex-President J. A Kufuor.
Some members of the NPP have described the arrest by the BNI as political vindictiveness.
