The brouhaha over the erection of a multimillion dollar edifice at Adabraka, a suburb of Accra which is intended to be the new National Democratic Congress party headquarters, is not likely to die soon following some diametrically opposed answers being provided by some big guns in the party.
Whiles three leading figures of the NDC have stated on various platforms that the party is erecting a new office complex, the location seem to be a bit perplexing.
The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), on Monday, raised alarm at the construction of the imposing edifice.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the group expressed worry about the source of funding for the edifice, since some few years ago, the NDC claim they could not submit their audited accounts because of lack of adequate financial resources to hire external auditors.
AFAG said, it is therefore worrisome to see to the near completion of this modern office which the group estimates at $20 Million (300 billion old Ghana Cedis).
On Monday, December 5th, Solomon Nkansah, Deputy Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, openly disclosed on The Platform, a socio-political programme on Peacefm (which airs on Mondays and Wednesdays between 8:20 10:00pm) that the said building belongs to the NDC. He, however, disputed the figure being bandied about by AFAG.
But speaking on OkayFM on Tuesday morning, Kofi Adams, Deputy General Secretary, claims he only knows of a new office edifice to be sited at Oyibi near Dodowa. He however stressed that he is not part of the technical committee in charge of the project and therefore has no idea about the Adabraka office complex.
Interestingly, the NDC National Organiser, Yaw Boateng Gyan says the NDC office is at Oyarifa on the Aburi road.
He initially vacillated on the issue when Kwami Sefa Kayi sought to find out from him on Tuesday if the building in question belonged to the NDC, but had admitted in an earlier interview on Monday during PeaceFM News@6pm that officially the NDC is putting up a "party school". He revealed that the NDC is building the school to train its members to desist from dirty politics and politics of insults.
According to him, "whether anybody likes it or not the NDC is in the process of constructing a party school to educate its members.
The NDC is building a party school, whether they like it or not we are in the process of constructing it. We will build it to train our members so that they dont involve in dirty politics and politics of insults in order to make Ghana a better country. We politicize everythingif we are not careful democracy will destroy the country, he said.
He slammed AFAG for exhibiting hypocrisy by openly commenting on some issues that negatively affect the NDC whiles keeping a loud silence over matters involving the NPP.
The General Secretary, Aseidu Nketia had publicly touched on the partys new modern office complex at our July Congress (held in Sunyani), so its not a new thingthere are hardworking and well-to-do people in the party who can decide to make contributions to erect an office for the party and the party can also on its own put up such a building, Yaw Boateng Gyan said.
