The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Professor Mike Ocquaye, has disagreed with J. H Mensahs assertion that NPP flagbearers choice of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a running mate in 2008 was a mistake.
Prof. Ocquaye in an interview with Citi News said inasmuch as he disagrees with the elder of the party, he believes everyone has his or her own opinion but urged members of the NPP to learn to respect the choice of the flagbearer of the party.
Mr. Mensah had also suggested that the NPP need not necessarily go for a Muslim from the North to partner Nana Addo.
However, Prof Ocquaye said the Northern-Muslim factor cannot be ignored in the search for a running mate to partner Nana Addo for the 2012 elections. Our party is a very liberal party and if you think that was a mistake I disagree with him without any qualms, the legislator said.At the end of the day, we are going to come out with a decision that would balance the ticket, he added.
Meanwhile, a former Upper East Regional Minister, Boniface Gambila, who wants to contest the presidency after Nana Addos bid said Prof. Ocquayes assertion is right.
According to him, J. H Mensah should have been quiet and rather not commented on the issue of who is right to partner Nana Addo. J. H Mensah shouldnt have come out at all, he should have been quiet because we in the North want to have a representation.
