The President of Ghana John Evans Atta Mills has reiterated indications that he will only move to the posh presidential mansion, the Flagstaff House, when he gets the all clear from national security.

The over $70 million plush edifice known in certain quarters as the Golden Jubilee House was put up during the era of ex-President J. A Kufuor, but the sitting president and his cabinet have refused to relocate there citing security reasons.

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) continues to steer the affairs of the nation from a colonial edifice, the Osu Castle which has often been criticised as unbefitting for a presidential palace in modern times. But speaking on the Monthly Breakfast Series of an Accra-based radio station Radio Gold on Friday, President Mills said, 展hen I get signal from the security I値l move. The very day I get the signal I値l move [in there].

The structure housed ex-President Kufuor in the last days of his administration, but has been underutilised ever since the NDC assumed the reign of power. It is currently the temporary office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It will be recalled that the office of former President Kufuor challenged claims by the National Security Coordinator, Col Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, that moving the presidency to the presidential palace would pose serious security threats to the president.

He criticised ex-president Kufuor for failing to do proper security checks and consultations before building the Flagstaff House. But Mr Frank Agyekum, the spokesperson for former President Kufuor, said those assertions were unfounded, insisting the place is fit for any president to operate from.
