The General Secretary of the Convention People's Party says the exit of Dr Papa Kwesi Ndoum from the CPP though surprising, is welcoming.

According to Ivor Greenstreet, Dr Ndoum's breakaway will offer the party the much needed opportunity to carry out "important works" it needed to do to strengthen the grassroots of the party.

Speaking in an interview with XFM shortly after Dr Ndoum had announced his plans for 2012, Mr Greenstreet said, "in the short term, there will be an orchestration of people choosing to follow him; but in the medium term, it will give the CPP free space and time to focus on the important things it needs to do to build its structures at the grassroots level to make sure that it is functioning".

He averred that this is also the opportune time for the CPP which has just one seat in parliament to "focus on increasing our representation in parliament to a significant number".

Asked if the exit of the man who has been quiet influential in the party, serving as its flagbearer in the last election posed no threat; Mr Greenstreet was confident the CPP will grow ever stronger even with Dr Ndoum's exit, saying. "the CPP existed long even before Dr Ndoum, it is a party with a great foundation and background. So I believe the future is still bright for the party".

Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, announced his decision to quit the party to pursue his presidential dreams as an independent candidate in the 2012 elections.

He addressed the media on his decision Wednesday morning, calling on visionaries who seek the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian to join forces with him.

Dr. Nduom who described 2012 as "a year of deliverance for Ghana" urged Ghanaians to vote massively for him in next years polls to experience real change in their pockets.
