Ablakwa: I’m Surprised That National Chair’s Letter To Mills Leaked

Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says he is astonished at how the letter written by Dr. Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of the NDC to President Mills got leaked and how some have misconstrued the contents of the said letter as evidenced by their varied and wrong interpretations.

The NDC National Chair, in a strongly worded letter marked “very urgent”, summoned President John Evans Atta Mills to schedule an emergency meeting within a week to address issues he said had the potential of collapsing the party.

Mincing no words in his letter dated 10th January, 2012, which was copied to ex-president Jerry John Rawlings, Dr Kwabena Adjei said he was forced to write directly to the party's flagbearer because he had “reached the limit” of his “patience and tolerance. ”

But in a hurried response, the deputy Information Minister, on Wednesday, February 08, 2012 issued a statement saying, “President Mills has already met with the Chairman of the party and discussed the issues raised in the said letter”.

Speaking in an interview on Radio Gold, Okudzeto Ablakwa explained that the release was meant to clarify matters given the “dangerous" meanings some have read into Dr Kwabena Adjei’s letter.

Whiles acknowledging there are internal wranglings peculiar to every political party, he was categorical that the letter written by the NDC‘s National Chairman had nothing to do with the Woyome scandal.

“It has come as a surprise that this letter after more than three weeks would be leaked and all kinds of interpretation made. There are all kinds of dangerous interpretation which this letter has received and it is in view of this that the President decided for us to clear the air…Sometimes you wish you were the Almighty to know who did what but we don’t have all the answers and I cannot know the minds of all people…It is not clear who did the leakage…At some point, party members will have concerns but it does not mean that that is the end of our great party… so it is important that we don’t create unnecessary tensions…,” he added.
