Former National Youth Organizer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh has denied claims in the media that he is being sponsored by the national security coordinator, Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey in his bid to contest the Kintampo north constituency.
According to him, the national security coordinator will be the last person in the NDC he would expect any gift from, let alone receiving sponsorship.
The informer newspaper has constantly been alleging that Mr. Bomfeh is being sponsored by the national security coordinator in order to snatch the Kintampo North seat from the NDC, which the ruling party has held since 1992.
But, speaking on Asempa FM in reaction to the claims, Kabila as he is affectionately called, stated that he has never met Gbevlo Lartey in person for which anyone would use it as the basis for the allegations.
“I have never met Gbevlo Lartey in person, I don’t know him, and I only see him on television, in the dailies or (hear him) on radio. Some of these reports are just for comic relief because I wonder how Gbevlo will sponsor me”.
Though Kabila asserted that he has many friends and relatives in the NDC, he wondered the kind of motivation that will precipitate the national security boss to fund his campaign for election 2012 when his party (NDC) is also contesting that same seat. “I have friends in the NDC. Most of my relatives from Kintampo North and Bole Bamboi are NDC but I don’t know why they will sponsor me because I am not with them. To say Gbevlo is sponsoring me means he wants the NDC to lose in the constituency, it is impossible especially for a seat they have been holding for over 16 years” he stressed.
Kabila, the Communications Officer for pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), stressed that in politics, Gbevlo Lartey will be the last person he will ever admire so he has no basis to claim anything from him.
