The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged its commitment to collaborate with the Electoral Commission to ensure free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections in December.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the NPP in Election 2012, who made the promise, however, said under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government led by President John Atta Mills, three parliamentary bye-elections held at Atiwa, Akwatia and Cheriponi were characterized by violence.

The NPP flagbearer was addressing supporters at a rally, at which Greater Accra Region NPP 2012 parliamentary aspirants were introduced at Mantse Agbona, Accra, on Saturday.

He said: “This year’s election is not about violence, insults, vilification and concoctions. It is about issues and character. The NPP will not allow a drop of blood to be shed because of power as been alleged in the NDC news papers that the NPP is planning violence in Election 2012.”

Nana Akufo-Addo said the NPP was the only political party which could give Ghanaians first class economic management and asked: “how cans our country, Ghana, progress if we have propagandist leaders managing our economy?”

He noted that President Mills was not enticed by the concerns of Ghanaians and alleged that judgment debt was being paid to NDC financiers.

Nana Akufo-Addo said “the money paid to Woyome, could have been used to build class room blocks for our children in the Senior High Schools.” He said that if elected as president of Ghana in December, students in Junior High School and Senior High School would not pay school fees, “because high cost of education will affect the country’s work force years to come.”

Nana Akufo-Addo said he would tackle the wide spread corruption and pay workers better salaries to improve on their standards of living.

He said the 14.3 per cent Gross Domestic Product growth claimed by the NDC was due to proceeds from the Jubilee Oil Field, which was discovered during the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and not because of any better management of the country’s economy.

Nana Akufo-Addo said Ghanaians witnessed a better economic growth under the previous NPP Government than the present NDC Administration.

He said “Our national debt is doubled to trillions of dollars but we don’t see the money in our pockets as promised by President Mills.” Nana Akufo-Addo called on NPP supporters, sympathisers and well-meaning Ghanaians to come in their numbers and register when the new biometric registration opens next March.

Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, National Chairman of the NPP, said “Governments are voted for to uplift the standards of living of the people, provide social amenities, and improve infrastructural and economic development.”

He said the country under President Mills had not experience this development and that” Nana Akufo -Addo is the best candidate who can rescue our country.”

The NPP National Youth Organizer, Mr Anthony Abayifa Karbo, called on the youth of the party to be fearless, swift, monitor and observe the NDC. He cautioned that Nana Akufo-Addo would not be a punching bag for the NDC to win power and explained that the ‘All Die be Die’ slogan did not mean killing of people but a called to duty.

Mr Karbo said Nana Akufo-Addo has declared to campaign on the achievement of former President Kuffour and wondered on whose achievements President Mills would campaign on.
