Woyome Saga...NPP MP Arrested (Updated)

A Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has cautioned members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to delude themselves into thinking that they are above the law.

According to him, none of the NPP supporters, activists or sympathizers are superior beings and therefore the security agencies can effect the arrest of anyone who finds him or herself at the wrong side of the law.

Commenting on the arrest of the former Deputy Education and Sports Minister and NPP MP for Aburi-Nsawam, Hon. O. B. Amoah, in connection with the controversial GH˘51 million judgment debt award to businessman Alfred Woyome, the Dep Information Minister said it will be in the NPP’s own interest to cease from telling the police who to arrest and who not to arrest and how they (police) should go about their investigations.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Radio Gold, Okudzeto Ablakwa said he finds it difficult to understand the NPP’s penchant to 'focus' attention on Alfred Woyome and not on matters relating to signing and abrogation of the contract, a clear indication that the opposition party is not interested in a possible retrieval of the money to the state, but how to shoot down an opponent, and turn the whole issue into just a mere electioneering campaign subject.

“…The NPP wants to prescribe what should be investigated and what should not. They want the government to focus only on the payment of the judgment debt that was made to Woyome when President John Evans Atta Mills came into power…There are other angles to the issue; which includes the letter that was written by Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo and those involved in giving out the contract…if the NPP speaks as if there is just one angle to the story, there is a problem with that kind of thinking…the NPP must know that they are not superior human beings; the police have the right to pick up anybody at any time. They need to know that the country will not be run on their whims and caprices…” he added.
