The Northern regional secretariat of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has confirmed 17 Parliamentary candidates to contest the December elections.
They include candidates for the Chereponi, Kpandai and Wulensi constituencies. “So far we have about 17 Parliamentary candidates in the region and we will be doing primaries in some of the areas that do not have candidates,” Northern regional Organizer of the CPP, Hamza Seidu disclosed.
He told Citi News that the party was hopeful to win majority of the Parliamentary seats in the Northern region. This in Hamza’s estimation will position the CPP as the best alternative choice to the NPP and the NDC.
He said, “The CPP is up to the task of winning majority of Parliamentary seats this 2012 Parliamentary election. As you know for the past elections we recorded zero percent especially in the northern region.”
In a related development, Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum’s Progressive People’s Party has set March 15 to elect its Presidential candidate. The PPP founder’s spokesperson, Richmond Keelson said the party will hold mini congresses nationwide to elect the flagbearer.
He hinted that the process will be used to officially confirm the current leadership of the PPP.
