Government has described as a “concoction and a fabrication”, the New Patriotic Party’s allegation that national security operatives scuttled a meeting between Nana Akufo-Addo and visiting Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to the government, the security operatives were only carrying out their duties as is required by diplomatic relations where a host nation is responsible for providing security to a special guest from another country.

The NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, accused the national security of abuse of power due to their insistence on Thursday that they had to be part of a meeting between the Danish minister and the former, which was supposed to take place at the Movenpick Hotel.

Nana Addo’s spokesperson, Mustapha Hamid confirmed the incident to XYZ News in an interview, stating, the party does not know why the security operatives insisted on being part of the meeting. He however indicated that they are unperturbed by such actions.

But reacting to the allegations, Deputy Minister of Information, James Agyenim Boateng, explained that the security operatives were only following protocol.

He said as per the rules of engagement, a host nation is supposed to provide security for its guest unless the offer is rejected. In view of this the operatives went there to offer their services, which the Danish Minister accepted.

He accused the NPP of using these allegations as a diversionary tactic from the accusation leveled against the party executives by Kennedy Agyapong on an Accra radio station Friday morning.

“They are reeling under the heat released on them by Kennedy Agyapong; they have come out with this allegation,” he explained, adding, “this is actually irresponsible on the part of the opposition.”
