THE CHIEFS and people of Ningo have blamed First Lady Ernestina Naadu Mills, a native of Prampram, for the under-development of Ningo.

They have accused her along with Chief of Staff, Henry Martey Newman, a native of Prampram, and MP for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah, of allegedly using their influence to get Prampram made the capital of the newly carved Ningo-Prampram district.

Addressing a press conference at Ningo involving some sub-chiefs and youth from the area, Nene Kanor Atiapah III, Acting Paramount Chief and Mankralo of the Ningo Traditional Area said “this trio especially E.T Mensah has ensured that their hometown was made the district capital over Ningo. But we the natives of Ningo want to tell them that from hence, we are a district on our own. We will not pay any government tax or levy to any Prampram District Assembly tax or revenue collector,”

He further warned that the traditional council would expel any of its natives including sub-chiefs and assembly members if they honour any government invitation to a program in the new district.

This decree, according to him, was the final protest of the people against government for making Prampram district capital of the twin town Ningo-Prampram.

Nene Atiapah wondered why the trio would allegedly use their influence to make ‘little’ Prampram the district capital when Ningo had more infrastructure and arable lands.

He said following a series of protests by the youth of Ningo over the issue, some of the traditional leaders were invited to the Osu Castle where they made their grievances known to government.

He said the inability of Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo to meet them over the issue as he promised is allegedly due to the interference of the three government officials.

“We believe this trio and their cohort have prevented the minister from coming to meet us,” Nene Atiapah stressed.

Lashing at their MP for failing to carry out a single development project in Ningo, Nene said the few government projects the area can boast of were provided during the Kufuor era.

“E.T has deprived Ningo of virtually every good thing. All the good things make a transit to his hometown Gbugbla. We want him to come and point to one thing he has done for Ningo for the many years we have voted for him as our legislature,” he demanded.

The acting paramount chief said Ningo would protest against the construction of the proposed international airport at Prampram should its name be changed from Prampram International Airport to Ningo International Airport.

He claimed the land proposed for the national project was the bona fide property of the Ningos. “Prampram has no land for such a project,” he added.
