The Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region has declared their unflinching support for President John Evans Atta Mills second term bid.

They assured the President that they would do everything within their means to make him win the upcoming election overwhelmingly.

The Caucus made the declaration at the Central Region delegates’ congress at Agona Swedru as part of activities to mark the party’s 20th anniversary celebration.

Alhaji Mohammed Mutawakil Kassim, Regional Coordinator of the Caucus at a rally after the congress, reminded Zongo communities of the untold hardships inflicted on the people of the Zongos during the Aliens Compliance Order initiated and enforced by the government of the Progress Party from which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) emerged.

He appealed to government appointees, such as Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to support the Caucus to function effectively.

Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, said Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Central Region would do everything possible to help the Caucus because it is the backbone of the NDC.

Alhaji Fuseini Mahama, Deputy Natinal Coordinator of the Zongo Caucus, expressed his gratefulness to the NDC government for streamlining the operation of the Hajj which was often bedeviled with many problems before the government came to power.

“Now it is easy and smooth for every Muslim to perform his or her religious mandate,” he stressed.

Alhaji Issifu Ali, National Chairman of the Caucus, cautioned supporters of the party against what has now become “voting skirt and blouse.”

He pointed out that the President would be handicapped in Parliament if he did not get the majority of the MPs to support him.

Mr Charles Obeng-Nkum, NDC parliamentary candidate for Agona West, urged the Caucus not to allow the NPP to infiltrate into their ranks.

He said the Zongo communities would live to regret if the NDC did not win the 2012 general elections.

Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Lincoln, Agona West Chairman of the NDC, said the NPP had nothing to offer Ghanaians apart from the noise they made on the airwaves.
