The chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei, has finally broken his silence on the happenings within the party, saying Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, the party’s general secretary, did not insult former President Rawlings with his positive defiance call.

“I think that Asiedu was honest with what he said and it is unfortunate that it is being considered as insult,” he said.

Speaking to The Enquirer in an exclusive interview in Accra last Saturday, Dr. Adjei said the concept of positive defiance was implanted in them during the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era and it had never been wrong to use when the need arose.

“One doesn’t have to adopt the by-stander approach but defy positively when things are going wrong,” he emphazised.

Dr. Adjei told The Enquirer that the revolutionary spirit is still within members of the NDC and it would be better to understand the issue very well. “Old and new members of the NDC should simply understand the context within which the positive defiance concept was used,” he said. “All party members, sympathizers and supporters should understand that the NDC is in a political struggle and posterity will never forgive us if we go into opposition,” he said.

Dr. Adjei told The Enquirer that it would be absolutely right to defy things that would push the NDC into opposition in a positive way.

He said that all party members and supporters should move to the grassroots level instead of engaging themselves in the perceived Mills and Rawlings rift. “I don’t want to talk about what is going on behind the scenes to solve the problems within the party,” he said.
