Vice president Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur has said although some level of depreciation of the cedi is good, the speed at which the cedi depreciated over the last six months was alarming.
Addressing financial journalists in Accra, the Vice President said as the cedi has been appreciating against the major currency, there is the need for an improvement in the export levels of the country.
Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Henry Kofi Wampah, says he is optimistic that measures put in place to stabilize the cedi will continue to be effective as the currency over some few days now have appreciated marginally against the major trading currency especially the dollar.
The cedi has since the beginning of this year depreciated trading between GH 1.90 and GH 1.95 on the Ghana interbank and trading between GH 2 and GH 2.20 on the forex market.
