A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team, Samuel Awuku has told Citi News the opinions of leading member of the party, Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby concerning their pursuance of a legal solution to their appeals against the results of the December 7 results, are flawed.

Speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness News, Mr. Awuku said “he has expressed his opinion, we sharply disagree and we disagree on very strong principles.”

“Dr. himself agrees that the process was flawed; however he thinks that we should not take the matter up because it’s not going to get anywhere.”

Dr. Wereko-Brobbey, in an earlier article suggested that the NPP risked losing its credibility and significance if it failed to provide enough evidence in court to challenging the results of the 2012 election results.

According to Mr Awuku however, “we (NPP) believe that it was flawed and we want to take it up. It is not just for Nana Akufo-Addo or the NPP. This is an exercise that we are undertaking for the Ghanaian people; the voter who had to join long queues at mid-night all through to the next day and only to be disappointed by close of working day and be asked to come the next day to continue voting.”

According to Mr. Awuku for the NPP “this is also for the sustenance, maintenance and the survival of our fledgling democracy; where it becomes a battle for the strongest and who has the power to buy the system. So once Doc (Dr. Wereko-Brobbey) agrees that the process was flawed, I think it is the basis for us to continue
from there.”

“We believe that at the end of the day, it is the court that is going to decide if we [NPP] have a case or not. For us in the NPP we believe that this is the best thing to do at this point in time, the evidence that we have is overwhelming.

“NPP had millions of votes, so Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s opinion cannot be negate the millions of people who have also expressed their opinion for us to proceed to the law court.”
