The Editor in Chief of the Accra Daily Mail newspaper, Alhaji Haruna Atta has declared his intension to serve the government in any capacity.
An Accra based tabloid on Monday hinted that two of the nationís most celebrated Journalists, Komla Dumor of the BBC and Alhaji Haruna Atta are being considered for the positions of Presidential Spokesperson and Head of Communications at the Presidency respectively.
Mr. Komla Dumor has since downplayed the publication on his Facebook page.
But Alhaji Haruna Atta in an interview with Citi News said he was ready to serve the nation he so much cherished.
He said: ďSince morning really my telephones have been busy, what I make of it is yes all inclusiveness is something we have all been looking for and so as a principle I think I will support all inclusiveness not because my name has been mentioned in-connection with anything but just as a principle.Ē
Alhaji Haruna however said he hadnít heard any official communication in that regard from the Presidency saying, ďIt will be a great honour, I mean, I am a patriot, I love my country, I respect my government and I think if the President should so honour me I will certainly consider it as an honour to serve and I donít think I will even think twice about it; I am ready to serve the people of my country, the country I so love.Ē
He also admonished Ghanaians to rise above partisan approach to national issues.
ďI have over the past few years been less partisan than people make me up to be, I think these days more of my country than any political party and I donít even want to look at things in that colour or in that direction.Ē
He stressed, ďI am not looking at anything from partisan lenses anymore; I mean you grow up and you reach a certain age and you start looking things in the bigger picture rather than the small parochial one.Ē
Alhaji Atta added that family relations and senior colleagues both home and abroad have pledged their support for him though the speculation was yet to be confirmed by the Presidency.
ďThe calls I have been getting have been across party lines, is amazing because people have called me from the NPP, people have called me from the NDC and have all pledged their support; again is not official but the Chairman of the National Media Commission, Ambassador Kabral Amihere was the first to call me this morning for confirmation and said they were so happy and if that happens they will all support such a move,Ē he added.
