NDC Never Rigged 2012 Election - Omane Boamah

Dr. Omane Boamah, deputy campaign coordinator for the John Mahama 2012 campaign, is accusing the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of traumatizing its party supporters with the court case after failing on their promise of victory in the just ended polls.

According to him, the NPP is deliberately stirring controversy in the country by lying to the supporters that the the 2012 election was rigged when in fact they had lost fairly.

The statement is in reaction to the election petition filed by the NPP at the Supreme Court to contest the results.

The NPP has rejected the results of the 2012 elections and has since petitioned the Supreme Court to invalidate the results and declare its flagbearer the winner.

However, speaking on Asempa FM’s current affairs programme Ekosii-Sen on Wednesday, Dr. Omane Boamah noted that the ruling National Democratic Congress never rigged the elections and challenged the NPP to present its evidence of rigging to the Supreme Court.

He asserted that the NPP leadership led by the flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo has disappointed its supporters and are in desperate move to misdirect their shame.

“NPP current leadership has disappointed its supporters after assuring them that the party will win the election. They assured the supporters that definitely the party was poised to win the election but since they couldn’t honour the promise, they want to cover the shame with the court issue. NDC never rigged the election but it is the NPP that is mischievously claiming the EC connived to rig it in favour of us. I challenge them to put their evidence before the Supreme Court but I don’t think they have any case”.

He warned that if the court action is an attempt by the opposition to distract the Mahama/Amissah Arthur government, then it is bound to fail because it is a government focused on pursuing the better Ghana agenda.

The acting Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports blamed the NPP hierarchy for choosing leaders whose actions were abysmal to the progress of the party, noting that they had better options.

“This shame being greeted on the NPP is up to them because they had better options than what they did. They had better options in the selection of its leadership at the primary. In fact between Sir John, Nana Ohene Ntow and Dan Botwe, I think it will certainly be Dan Botwe or Nana not Sir John. If you have also Jake and others, I think it would certainly not be Jake so the NPP had better options to choose good leaders. But what happened, they chose people who would preach all die be die”.

The minister reckoned that if the NPP had chosen Alan Kyeremanten, they would have had better result than what Nana Akufo-Addo put up. “I thought Alan Kyeremanten would have done better than what Nana Akufo-Addo did. Nana Addo certainly brought the NPP down with his all-die-be-die mantra”.

Commenting on the much talked about 4,800 witnesses to be presented by President Mahama, Dr. Omane Boamah noted that it is in the right direction because the NPP’s 1.34 million votes rigging allegations would also come from over 4,000 polling stations.

The minister designate for the Communications Ministry asserted that the Supreme Court petition filed by the NPP leadership is an attempt by its 2012 flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the party again into the next election.

“If president Mahama is to present his 4,800 witnesses, when is the case going to end so I think Nana Akufo-Addo is doing this in an attempt to lead NPP again. If this is not the motive of Nana Addo then he should tell Ghanaians and stalwarts of the party like Kufuor and Alan Kyeremanten that he is no longer interested in leading the party again. If Nana Addo is to make this declaration, then I would consider that going to court is not a personal one as he had claimed”.

If not then he is keeping the party hostage” he bellowed.

Dr. Omane Boamah observed that the 2012 general election was won by the NDC in three thematic areas namely peace, job creation and education for which the NPP failed to deeply address them. “The NPP lost because they failed to deliver on the issues of job creation, peace and education which were very pivotal in the campaign. When we were talking about quality, NPP were talking about free education and that of peace, they were saying all-die-be-die so they failed to catch the eyes of Ghanaians”.

He wondered how the NPP expected Ghanaians to vote for a party that was threatening them and had no clear message. “How were the NPP expecting Ghanaians to vote them into power? They were threatening all-die-be-die against president Mahama who was preaching peace so who would Ghanaians vote for? NPP must know better and do the right thing because the better Ghana is moving on”.
