The Savannah Development Watch (SDW), a Civil Society Organisation, has condemned the recent riotous behavior exhibited by a section of the youth in Tamale which led to the vandalisation of party paraphernalia.

They group described the incident as indiscipline, disgraceful and shameful adding that the action of that section of the youth reinforced the negative image of violence and impunity associated in the area.

A statement issued in Tamale and signed by Mr Basharu Alhassan Daballi, Convener of SDW, said the choice of who should be a Minister of State or for whichever Ministry was the prerogative of the President John Dramani Mahama in consultation with the relevant bodies as may required.

The statement said although people who engaged in the vandalisation claimed they did that in support of Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale South who as at that time had not been nominated for any position, “the question we are asking then is, now that he has been designated as Minister of Trade and Industry by the President, can youth who acted like that restore the tarnished image of the region?”

It urged President Mahama not to be perturbed with such acts of indiscipline and ignore blackmail by any group of persons but concentrate on what the National Democratic Congress government led by the President could do to improve the living standard of the people.

It appealed to the youth to avoid resorting to violence in seeking demands but rather use appropriate to maintain peace and development.

The statement affirmed the SDW support in the Presidents quest to implementing the better Ghana Agenda.

On Friday, some youth groups in Tamale were reported to have destroyed numerous party billboards in protest to what they perceived as a sidelining of Haruna Iddrisu from the President Mahama’s government.

Following that Mr Iddrisu, appealed to the youth groups to remain calm and respect the decision of the President as regards Ministerial appointments.
