The New Patriotic Party(NPP) is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the allegation churned out by its General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John.
Sir John accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of complicity in the accident of the 2012 Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The former Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana (BoG), was involved in a near-fatal accident on Sunday at Bole Bamboi in the Northern Region.
According to the NPP chief scribe, Sir John, the fact that Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and Dr. Bawumia had their tyres deflated at the same place; which also happens to be the hometown of President Mahama, it was a grand scheme to assassinate Dr. Bawumia.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Wednesday’s edition of "Good Morning Ghana" programme on Metro TV, Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the NPP indicated that the party have not yet taken a stand on the allegations of Sir John.
According to him, the party will be holding a meeting today(Wednesday) to discuss among other things the accident of Dr. Bawumia.
He alluded that Sir John’s position is not that of the party, adding; ‘whatever Sir John is saying, he is saying that from his privileged position as the General Secretary’.
“There has been no formal meeting of the party on this matter, so I will assume that the General Secretary is speaking basically on information that he is preview to. I assume that maybe he has some information that he may make available today at the meeting. The party has not yet taken a party’s position on the issue but there will be a meeting today where I think these issues will be discussed.
"Since the accident happened there has been no formal meeting of the executive structure of the party to arrive at a definite position. A formal position will be adopted concerning the issue but until that is done, whatever Sir John is saying, he is saying that from his privileged position as the General Secretary…” Nana Akomea asserted.
Nana Akomea however, indicated that the circumstances that led to the accident of Dr. Bawumia are ‘quite strange. The way Jake’s tyre got deflated the previous day and then Bawumia’s tyre; the two tyres at the right side at the same time leave much to be desired’.
