General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, who was served with a 24 hour ultimatum by the Police Service to produce Dr. Mahamudu Bawumias vehicle which was involved in an accident on the Bole-Bamboi road in the Northern Region on Sunday, is daring the police to drag him to court.
Sir John, as the NPP General Secretary is popularly called, claims the police simply wants to see the vehicle and write it off as an accident, and thus save the blushes of President Mahama and the National security apparatus, following his (Sir John's) allegation that the two are behind the attempted assassination of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and the running mate to the Presidential candidate of the NPP in the 2012 general elections.
The Police Service on Thursday issued a 24 hour ultimatum to the NPP General Secretary to hand over the vehicle which Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia was travelling in when the near-fatal accident occurred over the weekend or face drastic action.
The NPP Chief Scribe openly told the media this week that he had the vehicle towed from the accident scene for the partys own investigation to be conducted since they believe it was masterminded by the NDC government.
According to him, he has incontrovertible evidence to show that President Mahama with the aid of the National security, masterminded the near-death of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, through last Sunday's incident.
The outspoken NPP General Secretary sought to find out why the tyres of three cars in the convoy of Dr. Bawumia deflated on the same day.
The answer to this question, he claims, led him to order for the towing of the mangled vehicle from the highways of Bole Bamboi without notifying the appropriate authorities because he could not trust the police.
But he now insists he has no idea of the whereabouts of the mangled car.
In a sharp riposte, Sir John challenged the police in an interview on the Citi Eyewitness News to seek redress in court if the party fails to produce the mangled vehicle.
The police are not interested in any investigation whatsoever in its proper meaning and understanding. What they are interested in is seeing the vehicle so that they can write the conclusion that it was purely an accident and as such president Mahama and National security had no hand in it.
"The Police are saying, failure to cooperate will compel them seek assistance from the law courts for further action; I am waiting for that day. If they want to go to court, let them go, he stated.
He continued; Since Sunday, the Police has not taken the trouble to interview any of the victims but are only interested in white washing Mahama. None of his executives were involved in towing the vehicle to an unknown destination and the police had no proof that he knew the whereabouts of the vehicle. However I will reply to the MTTU accordingly.
