The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has threatened to take the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to court if they fail to comply with the Police order to hand over Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vehicle which was involved in a near-fatal accident over the weekend.
The Police issued a 24 hour ultimatum to the NPP scribe, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, to divulge the whereabouts of the V8 Toyota Land Cruiser that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was travelling in when the accident occurred.
Sir John as popularly called informed the public after the incident that he had ordered for the car to be towed from the accident scene because the party does not trust the Police to conduct objective investigations into the case.
Describing the Police personnel as NDC folks, he refused to allow them to tow the vehicle claiming that the party will conduct its own investigations to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
But the Deputy MTTU Commander, Chief Superintendent S.K Tetteh has issued a warning to the party leadership to disclose the location of the vehicle or else prepare to meet them in court.
Speaking to Accra-based Radio Gold, Chief Spt S.K Tetteh told the host that; “If somebody respects you and then writes to you requesting to cooperate, and you fail, then we have other options. In the course of our investigations, if you have evidence or you know something about a case that is being investigated and you fail to cooperate with the Police, we don’t have any other thing than to go to the court for the court to compel whoever has information on the matter to release it to the Police. So, that’s what we shall be doing next.”
He also noted that the Police await the return of the mangled vehicle today(Friday)
