President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe is asking government to publish details of the contract for the 5,000 unit affordable unit housing project that is being sponsored by the Brazilian government under the Construtora OAS, a Brazilian construction firm.
According to Mr. Cudjoe there are no proper details for the housing project; “how do you cut a sod of a project that you don't even know the price, you have no details about the project…’’
He also questioned the rationale behind the abandonment of other housing projects started by past governments.
“There are 5,000 other units that have been abandoned by the Kufour administration and the Mills administration; I would have thought that in keeping with the local content quality… why don’t we continue with these [abandoned housing projects].’’
‘’I think it is important that whatever money that is being raised, whatever loan agreement that is being entered into, once a government is guaranteeing these loans it is only important that the prime interest of Ghanaians [are considered],’’ he said.
Mr. Cudjoe also questioned whether this project is part of the 2013 budget or the 2014 budget.
President John Mahama on Wednesday cut sod for the construction of 5,000 affordable housing units across the country for low and middle income earners. The project forms part of government's plan to reduce the housing deficit by 2016.
