As President Mahama is straining every sinew to fulfill his 2012 campaign promises to construct more schools, infrastructure and provide affordable houses for Ghanaians, his efforts, according a member of the communication team of the opposition NPP, Richard Asante Yeboah is make-believe to divert the tension on him.
President Mahama, a couple of weeks ago, renewed the commitment when he inspected the 200-acre land in the Odupong traditional area that has been released for the construction of a Community Day Senior High School (SHS) in the Awutu-Senya East Municipal Assembly.
During his 2012 campaign, President Mahama promised to establish 200 new Community Senior High Schools in selected districts in the country. Out of the number, 50 schools would be built in selected deprived communities in selected districts throughout the country every year.
Just this week, the president, cut the sod at Saglemi, old Ningo in the Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region for the construction of 5,000 housing units across the country under the government's national housing scheme.
President Mahama said government is determined to deliver on its promise in all sectors of the economy. He said government will complete the 4,000 housing units started by the Kufour’s government.
But according to NPP communicator, the corruption saga and the socio-economic hardship hanging on President Mahama’s neck are too much of a weight for him (Mr. Mahama), hence the various sod cuttings to sway Ghanaians that he is working towards his innumerous promises.
“……this is a nine day wonder which will not last because there is no money in the state coffers. The President and his Finance Minister have confessed that there is no money in the country……there are no chalks for our basic schools and so it will be difficult for them to get money to implement the national housing scheme… his (President Mahama’s) sod cuttings are meant to die down the pressure on him,” Richard Asante Yeboah.
