Many people have backed Bernard Antwi Boasiako’s bid to become the next Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Commercial drivers in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, have embarked on a vigorous campaign to support Mr. Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi to occupy the position.

The drivers have pasted different posters of ‘Wontumi’ on their vehicles as part of their campaign. Taxi and Urvan drivers that operate in Kumasi and its environs are active in the campaign for Wontumi.

All the posters have the colours of the NPP, as well as various inscriptions. They have appealed to the NPP delegates to vote massively for Wontumi. Kwadwo Awuah, a taxi driver at Krofrom, a suburb of Kumasi, said the drivers were rooting for Wontumi because he is youthful and active.

Wontumi is outspoken, strategic, visionary and very accommodative, he added. The NPP is gradually declining in the Ashanti region, and the party’s executives are responsible for that, he added.

He insisted that Wontumi would work hard to strengthen the NPP to attract many people. Agya Boakye, a driver at Suame, said Wontumi was committed to the development of the party. The NPP has been inactive for some years in the region and that is the reason why it secured more votes in the 2012 polls, he noted.

Agya Boakye said the NPP cannot afford to lose the 2016 general elections, stressing that Wontumi must lead the party in the region to recapture power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.

Meanwhile, other staunch members of the party in the region have also backed the candidature of Wontumi. They maintained that the party needs a unifier, visionary and dedicated person like Wontumi to win power in 2016.
