Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has downplayed the call on the Chief Justice to mount an investigation into the allegations leveled against Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Ms. Victoria Hammah, former Deputy Communications Minister, last Thursday, volunteered information albeit unknowingly on the outcome of the court ruling on the Presidential election dispute between leaders of the opposition New Patriotic Party and the Electoral Commission at the Supreme Court.

She was heard on a leaked tape recording claiming that the Gender Minister, prior to the court verdict on the election case, met with the Supreme Court Judges and her influence supposedly resulted in President Mahama being declared "validly elected" Head of State after a fierce legal battle.

But according to Kofi Adams, who was speaking on PeaceFM’s “Kokrokoo” Morning Show, the revelations by Ms. Hammah are just "market place talk imported by a Minister of State who should have known better.”

To him, she said nothing serious to incriminate Nana Oye Lithur for which the leadership of the NPP should petition the CJ.

Also, he lauded the President for the swift dismissal of Ms. Hammah because to him, he (President Mahama) is vested with the power to fire any government official for "non-performance. You can be fired for finishing your assignment. You can be fired for divulging information that should not be made public by a Minister or by an appointee of that status…the fact that Victoria Hammah has been fired does not mean she was fired because what she said was true. That line of argument…is absolute fallacy.

“The government has taken a very responsible decision in dealing with this issue by firing the Deputy Minister…that what you’ve said whether true or false, you’re dismissed; in the first place, nobody would want to have such a person in government.”
