NPP Chairman Killer In Court

Alhaji Martey Tei Korley alias Commando, the self-confessed murderer of the Vice Chairman of the Dome branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Patrick Baah, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Francis Obiri.

The suspect, who is also a driver and affectionately known as Mohammed, has been charged with possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority and murder.

He pleaded not guilty to possessing a wrapper of Cannabis Sativa also known as Wee, but his plea on the murder charge was not taken.

He has been remanded on the orders of the trial judge to re-appear on December 4, 2013.

Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuaruka, the prosecuting officer, said that on June 6 2009, Baah was murdered.

According to him, the police intensified their efforts with the view of arresting the perpetrators of the crime.

On November 16 2013, police had information that the suspect was heard telling some persons that he was behind the murder of Baah on that fateful day, he said.

Furthermore, he stated that the accused person, who was secretly recorded without his knowledge, said he was a contract killer.

The witness, who recorded the suspect, later forwarded the tape to the police.

In addition, he said the witness was advised by the police to obtain further information from the suspect and in the process, Commando boasted that he would execute anybody in order to secure more money.

Explaining further, he said after the tape was forwarded to the police, the suspect was arrested at Nima and a search conducted on him revealed dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.

He said the accused person claimed ownership of the substance but failed to lead the police to the source.

He was arraigned before court after police investigations.
