The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday called on members to use the forth-coming election of national, regional, and constituency officers to deepen the democratic tradition of the party.
ďAll aspirants to any office of the NDC must consider it as a privilege and an opportunity to contribute to strengthen and unify the party.
ďWe must therefore conduct our internal campaign with decorum, respect for each other and above all work in the supreme interest of the party for victory 2016,Ē Mr Kobina Ade Coker, Chairman of NDC Regional Chairmen Caucus told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.
Mr Ade Coker said: "Each member has a part to play to strive hard for the NDC to retain power in 2016. We cannot afford to be at each otherís throat; that will result in the party losing power".
He noted that the ultimate objective of the NDC was to continue to offer Ghanaians a better Ghana and as well as provide a better alternative government.
He urged NDC supporters and aspirants not to lose sight of this, and should be constantly conscious of the importance of keeping the party united.
Mr Ade Coker, who was also Greater Accra Regional Chairman stressed the need to continue to build the party into a forum for continuing education and discussion of policy and not just an electioneering machine.
He noted that party building was a process and not an event and called on grass root members to work assiduously towards solidifying the NDC across the country.
He said most Ghanaians were satisfied with what the NDC had done for them by whipping up their political awareness and the provision of social amenities and were prepared to vote massively to retain the government in power.
He also called on all party faithful to exhibit solidarity to its leaderships at all levels to attract others to the party.
Mr Ade Coker noted that lack of solidarity among party members would go a long way to hamper the efforts of the party to retain power in 2016 Presidential elections.
He said solidarity was an important ingredient in the organization of any party, coupled with patience and tolerance as a key factor to success.
He advised party members not to allow themselves to be lured by money but follow the legacy and ideology of the founding father and his leadership qualities.
"The Founder of the party has sacrificed a lot for this party and the country at large, so let us struggle to keep the flame of the NDC high," he said.
Mr Ade Coker urged sections of the mass media to avoid misreporting, and not to sow seeds of discord amongst the candidates.
