The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo, honouring a dinner invitation hosted by the UK Chapter of the Young Executive Forum (a global network of professionals and entrepreneurs), pontificated that President John Dramani Mahama and his NDC government is incapable of running the Ghana efficiently except to be declared winner of election.

The four course meal dinner at the Blue Elephant Restaurant in London ended with Nana Akufo-Addo encouraging the young professionals and entrepreneurs to put their minds to things that would modernize and transform Ghana. He stressed that the goal was not the power and being called president or minister, but rather the goal was the transformation of Ghana, bringing the nation up to join the comity of modern, developed and prosperous nations.

“I think it is obvious to all of us here tonight that our opponents or competitors for political power are incapable of running our country well. It is clear that our opponents are good at being declared winners of elections but are bad at governing our nation. It means that whatever it legitimately takes, we have to make sure that at the next election, not only do we win it but are actually declared the winners. That is the responsibility before us”.

But a member of the Government’s Communication machinery, Bernard Anim Piesie believes the comment passed by the twice-defeated Presidential Candidate is unnecessary. To him, it is too early to resurrect his Presidential ambition in 2013, barely a year into the four year reign of President Mahama.

Addressing the issue on ‘Ghana Decides’ programme on Okay Fm, the NDC Communicator pointed out that it is high time politicians put a stop to the passive behavior and rather collectively help to build the nation. He stressed that Ghanaians want the opinions of leaders like Nana Akufo-Addo who have the interest of the country at heart on the alternative ways to implement policies rather than to dream of forming the next government while the mandate of Ghanaians is still fresh in the hands of a ruling government.

“…we begin to think of the next election as soon as we are done with one election, neglecting to help the full implementation of the promises made to Ghanaians; President Mahama is not capable of managing the country, and so what should we do next? Assuming he is incapable, what can Nana Addo do about it in a year of his (Mahama’s) reign? So we sack Mahama and what else, wait till 2016 without doing something to remedy the situation?” he quizzed.

To him, Ghanaians need portable water, good roads, electricity to run industries and for domestic use and quality education but not the mindset of Nana Addo to contest the presidency in 2016 at the early stage of President Mahama’s administration.
