Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who has been awarded a sum of C250,000 in damages, after winning a defamation suit he filed against the Daily Guide newspaper, says he intends to use the money to put up a building with the inscription.

Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, revealed in a telephone interview with NEAT 100.9 FM that he would get a plot close to the house Daily Guide claimed he had fraudulently acquired with the money and have the words, Kwasia bi nti, to wit, thanks to a fool, boldly inscribed on the entrance.

I will take that money and build with it. After putting up the building, I will inscribe Kwasia bi nti (thanks to a fool) in front of it, he disclosed.

An Accra Fast-Track High Court on Thursday awarded the NDC Scribe damages to the tune of 250 thousand Ghana cedis and a cost of 15,000 Ghana cedis.

The NPP Chief scribe filed the case against Fortune Alimi, Editor, Charles Takyi Boadu, reporter, Morgan Owusu, Ashanti Region Correspondent and Western Publication Limited, publisher of the Daily Guide newspaper three years ago, after the Newspaper published a story headlined Asiedu Nketias Plush Mansion in March 2 and 3, 2011, that suggested that he (Asiedu Nketia) had used his position as chairman of the Bui Power Authority Board to divert building materials for his personal building project.

The NDC Chief Scribe claimed the story portrayed him as "a greedy, opportunistic and dishonest person" who abused his office to wrongfully acquire properties at Oyarifa in Accra and Daaban Panyin in the Ashanti Region.

Consequently, he brought a libel action against the afore-mentioned persons. The court, on Thursday ruled in his favour.

General Mosquito, who considers the damages awarded him as a gift from heaven, stated that it is time to make lies expensive. According to him, some hold the belief he will forgive Daily Guide by not claiming the damages because others who have had similar rulings made in their favour, were later prevailed upon to let it go.

no matter what they do, I will take the money. I will not allow anyone to defame me and go scot free. We have to make telling of lies expensive and if I forgive them, I would be making lies cheap to tell, he said.
