In unity, they say lies strength. Without this integral ingredient, it would be extremely difficult for any political party to win elections.
To avoid experiencing the same fate the New Patriotic Party suffered in 2008 and 2012 respectively after losing the general elections to their political archrivals, the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the party, has called on every single member to support the presidential ambition of Nana Akufo Addo.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako's plea was mainly directed at other flagbearer aspirants who aim to unseat Nana Addo in their next congress. “I kindly call on Mr. Kyeremanten and the other aspirants to abandon their decision for now and rally behind Nana Akufo Addo should he declare on the 20th of March that he would contest again”, he appealed.
He again chipped in that although the party upholds the principles of democracy and believes that it drives them forward, they must allow Nana Addo to run as the only candidate and enrich his campaign with their resource.
Such a decision, according to him, will send the NDC panicking and this will open the door for them to win the election without a divided front.
In an interview with Okay FM, Mr. Antwi Boasiako also called on senior members of the party to spearhead the call for unity if they wish to see the party in power in 2016.
In his opinion, should Nana Akufo Addo make his intention clear that he would run again on the ticket of the NPP, it would be prudent for the other candidates aiming to vie for his position to abandon their interest for now and throw their weight behind him.
“As a Regional Chairman, I will urge all party members who wish to contest Nana Akufo Addo to rescind that decision in the interest of the party and support him. This is the time for us to change our style a bit if we want to come to power”, he said.
