Northern regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP,) Bugri Naabu, has challenged former president Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, to provide Ghanaians with evidence that his successor, former president John Agyekum Kufuor, committed any offences worth prosecuting.

The NPP northern chair made these remarks when he reacted to allegations by Mr. Rawlings that the country’s current economic challenges started during Mr. Kufuor’s regime and that late Senior Advisor to the President John Dramani Mahama, P. V. Obeng, saved the NPP from prosecution on Accra-based Okay FM last Friday, May 23.

He wondered why Mr. Rawlings has consistently attacked Mr. Kufuor yet he did not have any evidence to produce to that effect.

Mr. Naabu advised Mr. Rawlings to desist from “talking any how” if he wanted the youth to respect him as the statement that he is.

He warned that the NPP will not sit idle and allow him insult its former leader [J. A. Kufuor].

He wondered why Mr. Rawlings will listen to P. V. Obeng’s plea when he [Rawlings] knew the truth or falsity of his “so called evidence” against the NPP.

Mr. Naabu disclosed that Mr. Rawlings imprisoned him without trial for a year without any reasons till date.

He said he was first sent to the Tamale and Sunyani branches of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) then to Nima and to James Fort prison yet no reasons were given.

“If it were not for Mr. Kufuor and the National Reconciliation Commission (NRCC,) I would have sued him,” he said.

“…He killed people and stole state moneys yet he talks about corruption all the time. He sent people to burn down my hotel in Tamale.”

Reacting to an allegation that when the NPP had its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Accra, he got infuriated and near fought with other executives, he denied saying it was a meeting to debate on issues and not to fight.

He stressed that his party wanted power and that some members wanted the party’s national delegates’ congress delayed a bit when in his opinion was wrong.
