The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency, Hon. Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekufful has said the refurbishment of the Parliament House does not look Ghanaian.
According to her, the step towards getting a paperless Parliament with the installed communication devices is the best, but sadly recounted that the newly fixed chairs have taken away the Ghanaian symbols which used to accompany the old furniture.
Ghana’s law making chamber has been fully overhauled with new set of furniture and digital devices installed on each desk to promote paperless transactions among MPs.
Inasmuch as she expressed enthusiasm about the digital devices which will make it easy to know the voting pattern in the Chamber, the Minority NPP Member of Parliament noted that the new carpet was not even nice as she sees the color to be too busy with many drawings.
“It is sad that we have lost our ‘Adinkra and Gye Nyame’ symbols which make our Parliament Ghanaian, the carpet is not nice to me; I think it is too busy and the drawings are too many...but I am happy we have taken a huge step towards getting a paperless Parliament,” she commended on Oman FM’s Morning Show.
She insisted the digital devices are useful because all the MPs will have their documents installed on them, dismissing every perception that the law makers cannot work with the devices as human beings are infinitely adaptable to any situation.
Mrs. Ekufful indicated that Parliament is collating reactions and comments on the installed chairs and the devices so that on the next recess, those anomalies will be fixed.
