Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew will captain the Black Stars of Ghana for their final AFCON 2015 qualifers against Uganda and Togo.
Substantive team captain Asamoah Gyan is still struggling to shake off a thigh strain and is likely to miss both encounters, paving way for Ayew to captain the team for the first time in an international match.
Andre has worn the band during games but has never led the team out for a senior fixture. He also led the national under 20 team to Africa's first ever world title at the age group in 2009.
He will become the second Ayew to captain the senior national football team after his famous father,Abedi did so for almost a decade.
