A group calling itself Concerned Ghanaians is set to hit the streets of Accra to register their displeasure about the erratic power supply which is crippling the country.

The group says the demonstration is to forcefully point out to government, the extent to which the Dumsor-Dumsor’ is affecting businesses and ordinary Ghanaians.

Government has been struggling to meet the energy needs in the country despite various interventions including the use of gas.

The President, speaking at the Perez Chapel in Accra on 31st December last year told Ghanaians of the year 2015 will be “one in which we banish darkness from our land and put an end to dumsor forever”.

The comment was met with scepticism by some Ghanaians, who pointed that the President had a tendency to make promises without fulfilling them.

Spokesperson for the group, Atik Yakubu, told listeners Peace FM Friday they will protest on the symbolic day of March 6, which is also celebrated as Ghana's Independence Day, because they believe there is nothing to celebrate after 58 years of independence.

“Businesses are collapsing as well as industries and so if we should sit aloof without doing anything, then we are doing more harm to Ghanaians, hence our decision to demonstrate on 6th March.

"Dumsor is more of a security threat than armed robbery, so government should be swift in solving this power problem” he added.
