President John Dramani Mahama has fired his Chief of Staff, Prosper Douglas Bani with immediate effect.
He will be replaced by Julius Debrah, current Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.
This was contained in a statement signed by Minister of Communication Dr. Edward Omane Boamah who is also the Presidential spokesperson.
His sacking follows months of speculations in the public that there was tension between him (Mr. Bani) and two other officials who were also appointed to assist the president in delivering his duty.
The two, Dr. Raymond Atuguba, Secretary to the President and Ben Dotse Malor, Presidential Spokesperson resigned from their positions following what was believed to be the increasing frustration in executing their mandate.
Immediate past Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani will be appointed an Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary. The statement also announced the reassignment of William K. Aboah as an Adviser responsible for the restructuring of NACOB into a Commission.
He will also assume the Chairmanship of the NACOB when the Board is constituted. Baba Issifu Kamara, a Senior Adviser for Special Duties is the new National Security Adviser, while Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Johnny Osei Kofi, also moves to the Flagstaff House as a Deputy Chief of Staff.
The statement noted the President’s appreciation for the work carried out by all the officials who have exited, and expressed confidence in the capabilities and experience of the new appointees.
The President expects the new appointees to be committed to the task of managing the affairs of the Office of the President in order to realize his vision for the economic transformation of Ghana.
Meanwhile the President, John Dramani Mahama is in Rome and would be delivering an address to the General Council of The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) today.
