Ahmed Musah, lead counsel for businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, has described as ‘irresponsible’ comments made by former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The man at the centre of the 51 million Cedi judgement debt has been described by former President as a thief after he was acquitted and discharged by an Accra High Court.
The former President addressing the family of W.O.(Warrant Officer) 1 Isaac Tetteh, (former bodyguard of Rawlings) in his house, vented his anger over the ruling; questioning the ability of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to fight corruption.
But in reaction, lawyer Musah, wonders why a ‘respectable’ person like the former President will call his client a thief when he has no evidence and when the court has even discharged him of all the charges levelled against him by the state.
He accused the former president of defaming his client but stated that they will not be taking any legal action against him.
“It is unfortunate that a respectable person in society will speak to an issue like this. You don’t call a person a thief without evidence. He has so much respect…he shouldn’t do that. Why should you call someone a thief when you don’t have evidence…I call it an irresponsible statement,” he said in an interview on Citi FM.
