Aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency of the Central region, Mrs. Doreen Manieson, has stated that empowering women to spearhead the development of the country will be her focus when given the nod to lead the people of KEEA.

According to her, women are great assets in the development of the nation due to their nature and will do her best to nurture as many as possible to take up their rightful place in the upliftment of the historic constituency.

She indicated that women were not vulnerable and feeble as was being perceived, adding that what they need was a little push and support “and that is what I will do when given the nod as MP for this area.”

Mrs. Manieson said this when she re-launched her campaign at Elmina over the weekend.

The re-launching of her campaign was necessitated by fact that people thought she had stepped down in the race to represent the KEEA on the ticket of the PPP, adding that it was to re-assure her supporters that she was still in the race.

“By this, I’m not saying the men will be left out but my main focus will be on the women because I believe if the woman is well positioned to cater for the family, there will be peace in the home and the men will not be overburdened,” she said. The parliamentary aspirant disclosed that she was working on a programme dubbed “the strength of a woman” which will be geared towards empowering women in the constituency to boost self-esteem.

“We have so many strong women in KEEA and throughout the nation as well but they are just sitting on the fence because they are not seen and heard and these are the type of women I want to be seen and heard,” she said.

She added that the promotion of education will also be one of her priorities to ensure that the youth in the area attain higher education to be able to contribute to national development.

“I will make sure that if for nothing at all, a PPP government led by Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom will ensure that free Senior High School education starts from this constituency to enable our children receive higher education because KEEA is the headquarters of education,” she noted.

She observed that children drop out of school in the constituency after Junior High School (JHS) stating the need for them to at least get to the SHS level to be able to make good choices and contributions.

Mrs. Manieson noted that the chances of the party in the upcoming 2016 polls look bright saying “ if we were able to get almost 7,000 votes in KEEA in just two months in 2012, then we can do better as we have more than a year to campaign.”

She charged supporters of the party to remain united and disciplined to continue to make the party attractive to Ghanaians.
