Dr. Opoku Adusei, Senior Law Lecturer of the University of Ghana has accused the self-styled financial engineer, Alfred Agbesi Woyome of attempting to “blackmail” the Attorney General (AG).

To the University lecturer, the letter written by Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome calling on Marietta Brew Appiah to resign or step aside is only meant to blackmail her.

…This is nothing but blackmail and must be seen as such. I do not see any conflict of interest in this case … it is obvious many unseen hands are behind Woyome’s letter and it is meant to make the woman look bad in the public’s eye,” he said on NEAT 100.9 .

In a two paged letter signed by Alfred Agbesi Woyome, headlined, ‘Demand For Your Resignationn/Stepping Aside As An Attorney General Of The Republic Of Ghana In The Case Of The Republic Vrs Alfred Agbesi Woyome (Suit No. Ftrm 115/12)’, he sought to raise conflict of interest issues.

He openly expressed his frustration with the Attorney General by stating; “In as much as I am not against the decision of the State to appeal, I am particularly against your conduct and public utterances during the trail and after the judgment”.

I find it difficult to reconcile your decision to involve yourself directly in this criminal case and notice of appeal you have authorized to be issued and served on me. It is a fact that you and your clients received approximately one million dollars equivalent in Ghana Cedis from the said judgement debt you now so much criminalized and want me jailed for. The Cedi equivalent was GHC 1,474,393.00 through an Agricultural Development Bank cheque number 727324 dated 06/10/11 in the joint names of Ray and Ingeborg Smith”.

However, Dr. Opoku Adusei is of the view that Mr. Woyome’s letter to the AG was nothing but to “throw dust into the eyes of the public” and to fight Hon. Marietta Brew Appiah in a “psychological game”.
