Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Youth Leader, Divine Nkrumah says he is considering dragging the Narcotics Controls Board (NACOB) to court over abuse of his human rights.
Adomonline.com broke the news of the detention of the vociferous Youth Leader on Saturday night by officials of the illicit drug control body stationed at the Kotoka International Airport.
According to him, he was made to go through two body checks and his urine sample taken for testing after he was forcibly dragged out of a queue at the arrival lounge of the nation’s only international airport.
Divine, his deputy, Nii Armah and party Deputy General Secretary, Paa Kow Ackon, were returning from South Africa where they attended a youth conference for youth leaders of political parties.
He was only released after more than two hours of protestations.
This, the PPP Youth Leader said amounts to a violation of his right and hence has decided to drag the government agency to court.
“I am seeking legal advice and would drag NACOB to court because I can’t understand why I was treated that way…,” he said.
He continued that if he, being a public figure and a political leader was treated that way, he wonders what has been happening to ordinary civilians that use the airport on a daily basis.
The time to stop agencies of government from taking the law into their hands is now, he said; adding that NACOB and several agencies must learn to respect the rights of people they handle.
Officials of NACOB are however yet to come out on the matter.
