Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, General Secretary of Convention People’s Party (CPP), says the party has no presidential candidate and it does not intend to repeat a candidate who failed congress.

Addressing Upper West delegates at a Regional Conference in Wa to elect regional executives, he said the CPP has decided to hold its national congress to elect a presidential candidate to contest the 2016.

The 13- member executive elected on popular acclamation has Mr Elyasu Yussif Baba as its Chairman and Mr Issahaque Suleman as the Secretary.

Mr Greenstreet charged the executive to work tirelessly to get credible and trustworthy persons to contest as parliamentary candidates in the region to win elections in the 2016 polls.

Dr Francis Abu Sakara, former CPP Presidential Candidate in Election 2012 , encouraged the executive to avoid over dependence on Accra but learn to look within themselves and initiate things to attract others to come and help them.

He said: “There cannot be self-determination without self-reliance… The executive will determine what happens in the CPP.”

Madam Samia Nkrumah, National Chairperson of the CPP, told the delegates that the sacrifices that they had made in coming to a consensus to elect regional executive should not be in vain.

She said for the past 50 years Ghana had experienced bad policies and appealed to Ghanaians to consider the CPP in the 2016 elections to enable it to complete the works of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President.

She said a CPP administration would offer free opportunities to all Ghanaians to unearth their talents and potentials through the revision of all the visions and dreams of Dr Nkrumah’s economic policies.

“For 20 years now, Ghanaians have experienced hardship. We have what we called jobless growth in Ghana today,” and that should not be allowed to continue, she said.

On the International Monetary Fund bailout for Ghana, the CPP National Chairperson said, the CPP had spoken against it because it is going to make Ghanaians poorer.

“Loans servicing will over burden Ghana’s economy,” she stated.

Mr Baba gave the assurance that the regional executive would bring dynamism in the party by organising the youth and students into the party.

Alhaji Abu Yahaya, Regional Vice Chairman of the People’s National Convention, in a solidarity message urged Ghanaians, especially student to say no to laziness because it is a number one obstacle to Ghana’s progress.

“Let us all consider laziness as a crime and avoid it and work hard to progress. Ghana’s destiny is in the hands of Ghanaians, “he said.
