Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu has blamed the heckling and hooting directed at some government officials in Ashanti region by some students at the College of Education on the inefficiency of National Security.

Deputy Minister of Education in charge of tertiary, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, last Wednesday met their untimely public disgrace when teacher trainee students selected from various institutions in the Ashanti Region boycotted a planned programme organized by the Education Ministry whiles hooting at the government appointees.

The schools were St Louis, Mampong; Agogo Presbyterian, Offinso; Mampong Technical, Akrokeri; and Wesley College of Education, which hosted the abortive programme.

Addressing the issue on Oman FM’s National Agenda programme, Hon. Kokofu said National Security intelligence should have prompted the two deputy ministers that the grounds were not conducive for their “Campus Connect” exercise before embarking on the journey.

The NPP MP however condemned the action of the students no matter how legitimate their concerns are but insisted that National Security was to blame for failing in its duties.

“The actual issue is that when the deputy ministers drove unto the campus, the students were hooting at them and so intelligence report could have informed whoever is in charge the ground was not good. Where was the National Security? They are just holding the gadgets, broadcasting to the public where they work; they are mostly found at beer bars without doing their work...if something had happened to them (government appointees), their lives would have been in danger and the National Security would have been held responsible,” he chided.

He held the view that the action of the students speaks volume of the frustration and anger that teacher trainees hold towards the NDC government since previous Ministers of Education never suffered this level of public disgrace.
