The battle for the Manhyia North Constituency seat of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a dramatic twist, following the decision by one of the most popular figures in the race, Kwabena Nsenkyire to step down and throw his support behind Henry Nana Boakye, a member of the party’s communication team, who is vying for the slot.
The former Regional first Vice Chairman of the party announced his decision to step down when addressing Chiefs and Leaders of Moshie Zongo, a Muslim community in the Manhyia North Constituency.
Mr. Nsenkyire, who also doubles as the Assembly member for the Dichemso Electoral Area, told the highly respected opinion leaders within the Zongo community that he has decided to step down from the race and throw his support behind Nana Boakye, because he sees him as the most viable option.
Describing Nana B as an affable, humble and hard working youth activist of the party, Nsenkyire noted that the aspirant will represent the constituency well when given the chance. He added that the former KNUST and University of Mines and Technology(UMaT) TESCON President would surely unite the front of the party in the constituency, which is currently in tatters, as a result of the divide and rule tactics of the incumbent MP, Collins Owusu Amankwaah.
The performance of the incumbent MP over the past four years could best be described as below par and this has necessitated calls for change in the constituency leadership of the party with several other aspirants vying for the slot. “Nana B has for more than a decade now been very dedicated and hardworking to NPP and I believe the party should reward his hardwork,” Nsenkyire pointed out.
Nsenkyire further recounted how the aspirant, together with himself and other leading members, organized residents in the Ashanti Region for the two massive demonstrations – ‘Ya Ye Den’ and ‘Yabre Demo’ and the ‘Won Gbo’ demonstration in Accra.
Meanwhile, Nana B, who is also the Head of Program’s and Events at the National Youth Secretariat of the party, has been outlining his vision and objectives during a meeting with the leadership of the various communities and delegates within the constituency.
Nana Boakye says he hopes to increase the voting percentage of the party in the constituency and restore faith in supporters of the party who have become dejected and disenchanted as a result of wrangling in the constituency. He has also promised to do everything he can to uplift the constituency help solve some of the major developmental issues within the constituency when given the nod to lead as the Parliament Candidate.
